Hogen Rebellion
In 1156, Japan faced a conflict over imperial succession. The Hōgen Rebellion involved conflict between the forces of reigning emperor Go-Shirakawa and the former emperor Sutoku, and involved war amongst and between the Fujiwara, Taira, and Minamoto clans. Historically, the Hōgen Rebellion assisted the establishment of samurai clan dominance over Japan for the next several centuries. The Hōgen Rebellion also established rivalries between the Minamoto and Taira clans that would cause further civil conflict. Delegates will be conducting discourse about imperial succession, positions in imperial court, and the role of the samurai in government. As the summer wind passes, you will be deciding the fate of Japan.
