United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR): Syrian Refugees
Chair: Miriam Delaforce
|
Since 2011, Syria has been facing war and a refugee emergency. 6.5 million people have fled the country in hopes of finding better conditions, staying in neighboring countries such as Turkey, Lebanon, and Jordan. Within the Syrian borders another 6.8 million people are displaced around the nation. In this conference, the delegates of UNHCR will come together to figure out the best way to support the 70% of the population in need of humanitarian aid, while also battling topics like funding, countries holding Syrian refugees, and much more. In this committee, delegates will question the moral, political, and social issues present in this crisis, and come to a resolution that covers critical issues such as the 2023 earthquakes which devastated Northern Syria, the impact of the Covid 19 pandemic, and counter-terrorism efforts.
